Mr. Scharr conducting a Wind Rehearsal |
Summer Sounds enters its ninth year in 2011, now under the
umbrella of the Cape Cod Symphony and Conservatory of Music and Arts.
George Scharr, SS Program Director, is the Director of Community
Education for the Symphony, Director of the Falmouth Campus of the
Conservatory, and a faculty member at Falmouth Academy.
Summer Sounds brings together a wonderful group of young musicians and
gives them the opportunity to work with some of the area’s best
professionals while having fun in the process. Students should have a
minimum of two years playing experience in order to take full advantage
of the program. Therefore, students generally are ready for SS the
summer before entering sixth grade.
"Getting young people
excited about music" is Mr. Scharr's primary goal and he is actively
involved with the program on a day-to-day basis, stating that "Summer
music programs should be fun and exciting for young people." Classes are
held in: - Concert band - Jazz band and the "solo" -
Brass, woodwind, string and rhythm ensembles - Performance -
Music composition - Vocal performance
There are two Summer Sounds sessions (one at each
Conservatory campus) this summer; further information and registration
materials can be found under “Summer Programs” at
