Summer Sounds Music Program The Summer Sounds Music Camp is in its fifth year in 2008. The camp brings together a wonderful group of young musicians and gives them the opportunity to work with some of the area’s best professionals while having fun in the process. Students should have a minimum of two years playing experience in order to take full advantage of the program. Therefore, students generally are ready for the Camp the summer before entering sixth grade, but fifth graders with sufficient experience are welcome to attend. The basic format of a typical day is to begin with an hour of small ensemble work with teachers specializing in each group. This is followed by an hour of fun and relaxation including a snack provided by the camp and time for sports or just hanging out. In the third hour, all the ensembles come together to form one concert band and rehearse as a full ensemble. At the end of the two week program, there is a concert open to parents and friends. The progress these young musicians make after only two weeks is truly amazing to behold. In addition to the closing concert, a major highlight of the program for our older campers is the overnight trip to a music festival. Typically this includes a concert at Tanglewood, but other musical events have also been a part of this trip. For the 2008 brochure and application, please go to SSMC Brochure 2008. |
